Despite Iranian officials' best efforts to shut down free speech coverage of the election, dramatic communication continues via Twitter and You tube and BLOG. Though U.S. cable news coverage of the Iranian elections (especially CNN) has been LOUSY, blog coverage is GREAT. AndrewSullivan.com is offering fascinating dispatches. He observes:
That a new information technology could be improvised for this purpose
so swiftly is a sign of the times. It reveals in Iran what the Obama
campaign revealed in the United States. You cannot stop people any
longer. You cannot control them any longer. They can bypass your
established media; they can broadcast to one another; they can organize
as never before.
The authorities may crush the revolt and the yearning for democracy. But, as Sullivan points out, "the genie has escaped this Islamist bottle."
