Journalist Cole Campbell Will Be Greatly Missed

  • A brilliant journalist I knew a little bit and admired greatly, Cole Campbell, 53, died in an automobile accident in Reno, Nevada January 5, 2007. His death is particularly tragic because he was at the pinnacle of a storied career. As the new dean of the journalism school at the University of Nevada, he was poised to make the school, in his words, "a national beacon for journalism as a practice and journalism education." More.

Scanning through reactions in the blogosphere to Campbell's death, particularly apt was this one from "Jake": "Some people are like sparklers. They light up the room instantly, making life glow and sparkle. Cole Campbell seemed to me to be a human sparkler...Enjoy the sparklers in your life; they will never last long enough."
