Here's a glimpse of the future -- how widowed senior citizens will combat loneliness and connect to a community. Videoblogging on YouTube.com isn't just for young folks. Remarkably, the most subscribed video-blogger, using a simple webcam and Windows Moviemaker for video-editing, in 2006 was Peter Oakley, aka Geriatric1927, a nearly 80-year-old pensioner from England, who in a series of videos is simply telling his life story in an informal way. By November, he had 30,000 subscribers. Here's a Wikipedia profile of him. His Youtube page is here. His web site is www.askgeriatric.com. What's also remarkable are the heart-felt video responses to Peter's commentaries. Frank Ahrens of The Washington Post calls Oakley "a welcome voice of inexperience."
