Civil War in Iraq

If Shiites and Sunnis are destroying each other's shrines and houses of worship, killing hundreds, and more than 165 mosques have been attacked in the last 24 hours, what's the hope of creating a civil society and stable government anytime soon? Is there any way to establish order other than to  re-install a dictator like Saddam, which I guess is now constitutionally impossible? Joel Achenbach compares the latest violence to "the firing on Ft. Sumter." Last fall, I predicted that by the summer of 2006, we'd know whether Iraq "has fallen completely into full-scale civil war, and whether the United States can do anything about it." Seems the answer to that question may come far sooner. By summer, can the U.S. invasion of Iraq look like anything but a fool's errand?
